9mm Xd Pistol - Look around the industry and you will find many good guns. You can find many affordable handguns. But can it be found that combines both of these? If you're looking for the highest performance defense pistol for the money, the Springfield Armory XD 4" Service Model 9mm pistol can't be beat.

The XD 9mm pistol is an excellent example of a modern competition pistol. It is well built, precise and easy to master trigger. Visibility is clear and easy to put down in all conditions. When you hold and shoot this gun, you quickly understand why so many people are happy to own it.
If you need a full size handgun for home defense or law enforcement work, this logo is the one to look for.
With a 4-inch barrel and 1.2-inch width, the Service XD model is ideal for any type of law enforcement use. For example, I know of a private security agency that does 9mm XD service here in Florida. It has to take care of the operational risks related to the security of nuclear facilities. His officers have responded to many calls of violence. Time after time, the XD service model has helped these workers successfully resolve dangerous situations.
Small arms are usually harder than larger arms of the same type. Larger guns tend to feel more snappy, have more surface area for grip and produce less muzzle blast. They do all of this while subtly targeting the potential for better radiation exposure. All of these factors make the model an excellent choice for a home defense pistol that can be kept in a bed drawer. Since the XD has an accessory, you can also add a white light or laser for optional direction.

With all that said, I also think the XD model is a great pistol for civilian concealed carry. A 4 inch diameter barrel is not much more difficult to conceal than a 0.5 to 1 inch shorter barrel, which is the barrel length of most "compact" handguns. Even the added target of the gun is easily handled with the help of a general holster.
The benefits of using a 9mm service model are many. One of the most obvious is capacity. One magazine of this rifle holds a staggering 16 rounds. By putting one in your pocket, that's 17 rounds before you need to reload. That may seem like a lot compared to a gun, but as my wife likes to say, "nobody ever complained about a lot going around."
Carrying the service model XD also offers you the same benefits as carrying it as a home defense weapon: full grip, visible sights, a small rail, and an accessory rail.
The function of the XD model hides well under the jacket. For an EDC gun, it offers all the benefits of a big gun, such as reduced recoil and full throttle.

If you're on a tight budget like many of your fellow Americans, the XD service model makes even more sense. Springfield Armory has done you a favor and is now offering this pistol at an incredibly affordable MSRP of $339. For less than the price of many pre-owned shotguns, you can get a new service model XD with its lifetime warranty.
Since it is suitable for home defense and concealed carry, you can afford to buy many guns and rely on the proven XD platform. This leaves a lot of cushion in the monthly budget for family meals and school clothes.
When I test a gun, hundreds, sometimes thousands, go through it, I look for what defects I can find. I have all types of ammo and bullets: +P, standard pressure, JHP, FMJ and polymer tips. So it happened with the 4 inch XD.
In my case, I have shot several XD pistols over the past couple of decades. I had a good idea of what to expect when I went to the border. Yes, with great hope. XD delivered. No problems with the 760 gun round. All types of ammo perform well in this pistol.

His accuracy was excellent at 25 yards. Most guns can do better than a guy pulling the trigger, and that seemed to be the case with the gun test. When I did my job, the gun went around where it had to go.
Defense car loads like the federal HST 147-gr. JHP, Hornady Critical Duty 135-gr. FlexLock and Speer Gold Dot 124 gr. JHP +P performed at or above expectations. All were fed and released with 100% credit and converted into large groups.
One of the complaints some shooters have about the newer striker-fired pistols is that the trigger does not operate smoothly. I do agree that a sniper rifle is indeed different from a classic double action revolver, but I don't agree that they are bad. In fact, the XD has one of the best triggers in its class. When pulled moderately, the trigger has a relatively short pull with a constant weight until it breaks. I love how it feels.
The size of the grip allows the shooter to better control the gun during the entire shooting process. As an added benefit, larger loops allow for greater storage capacity.

I'm worried about some of the health issues of life. Like many striker-fired rifles, the XD uses a pivot in the center of the front of the trigger to prevent accidental shots. Springfield Armament uses a safety trigger that appears to have rounded edges for increased comfort during long range sessions. I found the comfort of safety excellent.

Another feature of the XD that stands out to me is the shape of the back just below the slide. This upper part of the member cuts the interior significantly. While this may be done specifically to ensure the safety of the engagement, I appreciate that it allows me to have just the right number of fingers on the trigger every time I draw the gun.

The Springfield XD is a proven manufacturer of all-weather pistols that delivers complete value at a modest price.
At the end of the day, though, the original XD line remains solid and extremely affordable. As far as a defense tool goes, the XD seems to check all the boxes, keeping the platform's retail price of just $339. As far as new pistols go, it's hard to find a quality defensive pistol for less than $350 - especially one with the XD tool.
For my money, the XD 4-inch 9mm pistol is one of the best self-defense options on the market today.
