After years of carrying a single handgun while hiking or as a backup while hunting, I ditched the .45 Colt for the "new style" double action rifle. The difference in productivity is significant. The 625 was faster on target and faster to reload than just a single action, but other than moon clip revolver.

(falcoholsters.com) The Smith & Wesson 625 is not as fast as a K-frame revolver, but once cocked and ready to fire, the revolver is quick on target and controllable in rapid fire. The 625 is designed for pin bowling, where the revolver is used to fire rapidly and knock a row of bowling pins off the table. The winner is the shooter who clears the table the fastest. The smooth movement of the revolver limits recoil and flinching effects. Focus on the front sight and slowly pull the trigger back on each one and you will hit. The revolver weighs 42 ounces, so recoil is not a factor.

The Office Head has a nice design for those who like to pull the hammer back for a fire. The cylinder is chamfered for easy loading. 230 loads of seeds quickly slide into the chamber. Semi-hunted and hollow-point bullets require more handling. It is evident that by taking the nose of the bullet and bringing the bullet into the cylinder instead of holding the moon clip of the actual rear post. Those who have learned to use quick loaders on regular revolvers can load quickly with moon clips. The cylinder is shorter than some revolvers. Most .45 ACP revolvers shoot well without a moon clip, but they require you to store the cartridges at once. My revolver shoots without moon clips, with occasional ignition, but mostly light primer. While this is a bit inconvenient, the Office 625 is more accurate than most .45 ACP revolvers. The short cylinder and elongated forcing cone provide the ability for greater accuracy.
Most .45 ACP revolvers starting in 1917 used shallow guns because they were designed for .230 rounds. The reality with hard lead bullets is not always ideal. The Office Head has a deep gun barrel, and while it is accurate with bullets, it is very accurate with heavy objects. A 255 grain bullet (Mattsbullets.com) at 800 fps seems to be the sweet spot for accuracy. I don't like muscles, not only sharp edges - even stylish - on the top, they are uncomfortable. A set of Hogue MonoGrips addressed this shortcoming.
From top to bottom - 625, Colt Python, sometimes called .41 frame, and Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum K frame. The 625 is bigger than the Magnum, but it works fast.
A good portion of the ammunition used in this revolver is Black Hills 200 grain LSWC ammunition. I have also shot Black Hills 185 grain JHP ammo, Black Hills 230 grain JHP ammo, and Black Hills 135 grain Honey Badger ammo. The truth is very good. This revolver is good for a five-inch, two-inch, two-inch group at 25 yards. Depending on the shooter, sometimes the groups are smaller and sometimes larger. For use on the trail, when large animals may decide to make a quick lunch of you, the Buffalo Bore 255 grain .45 ACP Outdoorsman is the perfect choice. Recoil is higher than .45 ACP loads, but I find it uncomfortable. At just over 1,000 fps with the Buffalo Bore loaded, I don't think I'm putting on a .45 Colt. In fact, the .45 ACP 255 grain load is slightly hotter than the standard 255 grain .45 Colt Buffalo Bower pressure load!

One final fix for the Smith & Wesson safety lock I don't like. This device locks the action by turning the key. Most just ignore it. I personally experienced problems with the lock going into the safe position during the shot. This seems to be limited to deep magnums, but I don't want to use a gun I guess. Originalprecision.com provides lock removal. It changed the lock and gave me more confidence in the gun. You are not removing the safety, but the gun is locked, at least in my opinion, but to each their own. The Smith & Wesson Performance Center 625 is a rifle that will see many uses in the future.
