.44 Automag Brass - The .44 Auto Mag pistol is a large-caliber semi-automatic pistol. It was designed by Auto Mag Corporation between 1966 and 1971 to add .44 magnum power to a semi-automatic pistol.
The pistol was expensive to manufacture and ammunition was never available, leading to the demise of the Auto Mag Corporation in 1982. The gun's reputation and looks made it popular in movies and novels. , and some versions are listed as "Curios and Relics". BATFE.
.44 Automag Brass
The Auto Mag pistol operated with short recoil has a front-mounted latch with locking lugs, similar to the M-16/AR-15 rifle. The Auto Mag is a heavy duty pistol designed to provide pistol hunters with 0.44 magnum power in a semi-automatic pistol. The .44 Auto Mag is designed to fire .429-inch, 240-grain rounds at the same velocity as a .44 magnum revolver.
Semi Auto Magnum Pistols
In 1970, the President of Auto Mag Corporation, Harry Sanford, opened a factory in Pasadena, California. The first gun was delivered on August 8, 1971, and the factory went bankrupt on May 3, 1972 after producing less than 3,000 guns. The production gun is mounted in a .44 AMP (Automatic Pistol). The test pistol was built with .45ACP, .30AMP and .357AMP. With the exception of .45ACP weapons, changing the caliber only requires adding barrels and cartridges. The same frame, magazine, and latch can be used on both.
Auto Mag Corporation was short-lived for several reasons. The design team, having taken the Auto Mag pistol from the fully functional and functional Chrome-Moly steel prototype designed by Max Gera,
For a more complicated and less reliable stainless steel pistol, he disagrees with Harry Sanford on how the company should proceed. The design team firmly believed that the Auto Mag pistol was not ready for production and could not be produced profitably. The design team believed that even with a suitable available design, the wholesale price of the weapon would have to go up a lot or the company would go bankrupt. The design team could not convince Sanford, so they all resigned. The pistol was then put into production by a group whose concern was not that the gun would make a profit, but that it should be put into production immediately. This resulted in an expensive manufacturing process and later Pasadena guns were not well equipped as they were constantly trying to get the product off the market.
The severe undervaluation of the Auto Mag pistol, indicating huge market demand for potential investors, makes success impossible. Final analysis showed that Auto Mag Corporation lost more than $1,000 per pistol (as Max Gera predicted when he sold his stake in the company more than a year earlier); each pistol retails for a wholesale price of about $170. The pistols originally retailed for $217.50 (about $1,200 today). Used Auto Mag pistols currently selling for around $3,000-4,000
Automag From 308/30 06
Lee Jurras (Super Vel Ammunition) ordered a limited number of Auto Mags to have the LEJ prefix on their serial numbers. They are built to his specifications and fitted to the .44AMP, .357AMP and .41JMP of the wildcat (Jurras Mag Pistol). Some Jurras custom guns come with custom holsters and bags, shoulder straps, polishing work, gilding, engraving, and more.
Auto Mag Design has spawned three new cartridges: the .44 Auto Mag (.44 AMP), .357 Auto Mag (.357 AMP) and the lesser known .41 JMP.

AMT (Arcadia Machine and Tool) produced several firearms under the AutoMag name instead of Auto Mag, including the AMT AutoMag II in the .22 WMR, the AMT AutoMag III in the .30 Carbine, the AMT AutoMag IV in the .45 Winchester Magnum and the AMT AutoMag V in .50 Action Express.
Amt Automag Ii .22 Magnum Semi Auto Target Pistol
Its straight-walled, rimless case was originally designed by cutting the .308 Winchester or .30-06 case down to 1.30 inches (33 mm).
Loaded ammunition was once available from Cartuchos Deportivos Mexico, a Mexican company, and Norma (a Swedish company), which produced empty cartridges.
Similar to .44 AMP but scaled down to accept smaller diameter bullets. The same is true for .41JMP, .30, .25 and .22LMP.
Current loaded ammo is available from Cor-Bon and new .44 AMP brass from Starline Brass. The dedicated hand feeder is capable of making AMP cases in Winchester .30-06 or .308 brass using a set of shaping tools and an internal neck reamer. Sorry Bruce for poking my nose into the topic, so I'll get started. Since there seemed to be some interest and I didn't have much else to do (spring is NOT here!), I took a few more pictures.
Auto Mag Pistol Model 180
I measured the distance from the bottom of the reamer to the edge of the tool and got 0.390
And here's the .44 bullet against the same measure. Luckily, the grooves match the exact depth!
And as others have said... now that we can buy brass, this is the way to go. Like I said, I had to try it to see how it was. I think I made 60 pieces.....
I want to cast a box of 50 pieces in 308 brass just to say I have them... but I would never put them in there.
Auto Mag Ltd., Co
We were out of range by then and someone found a lost brass with the number 0.308 on the base but it looked very short... few of us knew what it was back then.
I've been going through "everything" lately, trying to sort myself out. I think there are several. I know I've come across some 308s that have been discarded, but I can't remember what I did with them (recycle? Trash?). I don't remember if they were actually loaded (I think they are). If Irun meets them again, I will try to contact you.
I would be happy to send $50 to some kindred spirit, or I would "rent" their reamer for a week.
Is it full size with 308 die or can it be cut "as shot"? We are the oldest and largest supplier of custom cartridges to collectors and professionals on the Internet.
