.380 Pistols 2022 - The Kahr P380 is a small compact .380ACP polymer frame pistol that Kahr began manufacturing in late 2009. The P380 was one of the first micro-compact pistols available before becoming very popular in recent years.

I've owned mine for a while now and here is my full review after taking hundreds, if not thousands of shots on it over the years.

Kahr Arms was founded twenty-six years ago in 1995 by Justin Moon in New York. Unable to find a compact weapon of a caliber he was satisfied with, he decided to design and build his own.

With a focus on excellence in workmanship and materials, Kahr makes no compromises in the design or manufacture of pistols. The most advanced computer applications and precision manufacturing techniques have been implemented to deliver the best pistol available. Uniquely designed and finely crafted, the unmatched quality of Kahr pistols is what separates long-term Kahr owners from the shooters who try them out. – Havoc Arms

Kahr takes great pride in the CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Modeling) techniques they use to design and model every gun they produce.

They can look into every aspect of the design in these programs and solve any problems that may arise.

The Kahr P380 is a pistol in the .380 Automatic Colt pistol (ACP) that can be classified as a micro-compact pistol.

Like I can hide behind my thumb, baby. Or being able to fit perfectly in the palm of my medium, small sized hands.

I don't think I've ever used a small semi-auto pistol in my 34 years of existence on this earth, much less in any self-respecting caliber.

22 caliber Derringer, but this is a functional semi-auto pistol we are talking about here.

The "P" in the P380 is similar to its big brother, the PM9, in that it stands for polymer. 380 caliber.

The Almighty 380 Acp Cartridge

This goes hand in hand with the naming scheme established by Kahr. Being a polymer and .380 means this little pistol is light even when fully loaded.

The Kahr P380 also has features that some other compact pistol makers seem to omit, especially on their smaller models.

Hiding the Kahr P380 is a dream. Its compact size and light weight make it the easiest ever to conceal a gun on your body.

While I never advocate pocket carry, this is the only gun I have successfully deployed in this manner in all types of pants.

I am a large man so it is easy for me to conceal most guns, but even my wife who wears a size small can easily conceal this little gem all day long without a problem.

The grip ergonomics of the Kahr P380 feel small but feel natural in the hand. The angle when aiming the P380 is different from the Glock.

If you are accustomed to shooting Glocks, the first thing you will need to do when shooting the Kahr P380 is focus.

This is not to say that the Kahr is less comfortable to shoot, as I find that it places the shooter's wrist at a more normal angle.

If I had a choice, I would choose the Kahr's grip angle over the Glock's all day long.

The overall size of the P380 presents a somewhat unique constraint when it comes to the overall ergonomics of the gun.

Because it's so small, everything is crammed into a small space and therefore can be difficult to manipulate.

When it comes to the looks of their polymer guns, Kahr consistently hits it out of the park.

The angles and ridges they provide in the backstrap and under the trigger guard feel very positive in the hand and let you know it won't slip out of your hand when you pull that trigger.

Like the PM9, the Kahr P380 also has a glossy texture on the side panel of the grip.

Of course, because the Kahr P380 is such a small pistol, there is less grip space.

Kahr decided to cut out the middleman and get them out of the factory, which is pretty cool in my book.

I don't like buying a new gun and then having to go back and buy new sights for the thing right away.

With the increasing popularity of the slide-mounted red dot, advanced iron sights are declining in popularity.

However, with a pistol as slim as the Kahr P380, I doubt we'll ever see a scope small enough to fit on the P380's slide.

When it comes to controls, the Kahr P380 is an almost perfect clone of its big brother the PM9.

There aren't too many controls to hold on to the wrong lever or handle the wrong way and unload your magazine or holster your pistol when you intend to do otherwise.

Internally, the P380 features a "safe cam" that prevents the pistol from firing unless the trigger is intentionally pulled.

This means that the P380 cannot be fired by dropping the pistol or hitting it with a hard object.

Like the PM9 on the Kahr P380, one of the only controls you're given is a slide stop/slide release.

Some would argue that using the slide catch as the slide release is not proper gun handling. Normally I would agree, but not so in Kahr's case.

By design, it is also intended to stop the slide, releasing the slide. It is large enough to operate easily and features cut ridges for ease of handling.

It's almost comically large when you consider it in the context of the P380's diminutive size.

The magazine release is located on the left side of the frame, where it is found on most modern firearms.

One notable thing about the magnetic release on the Kahr P380 is that it is as small as a firearm.

It is not reversible, but it is positive and frees the Kahr P380 magazine. This is an achievement in itself when compared to other micro guns of this category.

Kahr continues to use its double action trigger only in the P380. This trigger is one of the pistol's built-in safeties.

It takes a deliberate push to fully cock and fire the Kahr P380. Kahr has learned to make this trigger smooth like butter.

After performing these two actions, the trigger pull is longer than that of single action or normal striker-fired pistols.

Once you pull the trigger on a Kahr pistol, you will be completely taken aback by how smooth and clean the trigger is.

If you thought the Kahr PM9 barrel was short at 3.1", the 2.53" on the Kahr P380 makes it look big.

With the barrel just a hair over 2.5 inches in length, the entire gun literally fits in the palm of my hand.

For the extended magazine, you get one more round, plus one in the tube. The magazine is made of steel and is welded at the rear.

The extended magazine has a polymer ferrule that makes the front and sides of the magazine identical with the pistol grip.

The polymer on the magazine lacks any of the fancy punctuation and design work given to the rest of the gun and in my opinion detracts from the look of the gun.

To be a heavy round, the overall length of the cartridge must be greater. When you fit a long round in an already short magazine, it's not hard to see why this could cause a problem.

New Ruger Security 380 Lite Rack Pistol: Compact, Safe & Easy

You can get some griptape if you don't like the factory feel of the grip, or some aftermarket pinky extensions for your magazines, but it has the downside of not having much room to work with a pistol this small .

The Kahr P380 we have has a black stainless steel slide which makes it even more aggressive than the two-tone version in my opinion.

Kahr keeps its classic lines and angles on the new miniature P380. The edges are all nicely rounded and elegant.

The only place where I find a sharp edge is the part of the slide where the barrel cap does its lock-up. This could potentially be a moot point when introducing the Kahr P380 from deep cover.

Ruger Introduces The New Security 380 Lite Rack Pistol

When shooting with the Kahr P380, you can't be careless. Since the OS is so small and only has a limited range to work with, you must not move the wrist of this gun or it will cause it to malfunction.

This is more common in smaller frame pistols, so it is no surprise to see it amplified in this small pistol.

380 ACP, while less powerful than the 9mm, can still cause some discomfort when shooting, especially in smaller pistols that do not benefit from heavier frames.

I've found that my hand often wears out from gripping the gun so tightly that it keeps malfunction as a problem rather than an inconvenience from firing.
