3 Year Army Contract - WASHINGTON (News Service) -- 91 military occupational majors now have two-year enlistment options as a new incentive to offer prospects interested in joining their ranks.
Brian Sutton, a spokesman for the US Recruiting Command, said the traditional three-, four-, five- and six-year options for enlistment will remain in effect.

Soldiers who choose the two-year program and qualify will serve two years on active duty, then two years in the reserves, and then four years in the standby reserves, he said.

"We believe this short enlistment opportunity will appeal to young men and women looking to take a break between high school and college. It allows us to demonstrate to them in a short period of time that this is not just a job. Experience, education and leadership."
Snow added: "From a different perspective, shorter enlistment times allow us to re-enlist more veterans, which we think is a positive. The veteran population is shrinking, which is a big issue for us because veterans play an important role. Telling stories and encouraging young people to consider service."
